Pumpkin, 2016 by Yayoi Kusama (Japan, 1929).
Pumpkins represent a source of radian energy to artist Kusama. Growing up she was surrounded by this beloved vegetable in her family’s seed nursery in Japan. I found this spotted beauty in the courtyard of the Hirshhorn (Washington, USA).
You might also recognize Kusama from her infinity mirror rooms, the use of (polka) dots and her collaboration with fashion designer Marc Jacobs.
“Pumpkins bring about poetic peace in my mind. Pumpkins talk to me.”
